LATIN and the MNH Department of IPB University Explore Collaboration in Research and Social Development Phosrestry

LATIN fulfilled the invitation to discuss the experiences and activities that had been carried out inSocial Forestry issues. The aim is to open up opportunities for Management Study Program students Forest Faculty of Forestry and Environment (FAHUTAN-MNH) IPB University in implementing Independent Learning Campus (MBKM). This activity was held on Wednesday (29/11) in Ruang
The Forestra Forest Management Department’s session was hybrid and attended by lecturers fromDepartment of MNH (IPB) University.

“LATIN opens up wide opportunities for students to undertake internship programs. Currently we has several activities such as developing model sites, learning for young people, research,
and model development. LATIN places itself to provide assistance to Partners and The beneficiaries are management institutions,”
said Thomas, Executive Director of LATIN.

“Social Forestry is not only multidisciplinary in nature but transdisciplinary which requires collaboration multi-party. It is interesting because LATIN has Forestry Social School and Site Model activities. IPB University’s MNH Department can collaborate so that students can carry out activities at the model site and in the Forestry Social School curriculum,” said Prof. Nengah Surati Jaya

According to him, so far the Social Forestry business is still a small holder with a small scale. MHH IPB University and LATIN can carry out research to develop community businesses in
forestry sector. Apart from that, Social Forestry not only solves socio-economic problems, However, it has been proven that community forest management can solve global problems
like the climate crisis.

The ongoing discussion led to a follow-up meeting to discuss several forms cooperation. So far, the potential for collaboration is in the field of research and development of social education
Forestry for students. Everyone agrees that forest management is community-based requires the role of various parties.
