BOGOR, LATIN.OR.ID – LATIN is currently developing a knowledge management system to accelerate a wider impact on the development of science and technology and the survival of society. LATIN together with the PPK Ormawa (Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program) BEM Faculty of Forestry and Environment IPB University team held a “Coaching Clinic: Writing Workshop on Smart-TOGA Book Writing” on Saturday and Sunday (30/09 and 01/10). This activity was carried out face to face at Pendopo LATIN, Situ Gede, Bogor City.

This Coaching Clinic aims to strengthen writing capacity for young people, namely the PPK Ormawa BEM team, Faculty of Forestry, IPB University. Writing is one way of conveying ideas, stories of experiences and learning in a structured manner. Writing the Smart-TOGA Book is an effort to document good learning from Forestry Social Governance by young people who develop student activities through empowering village communities around forest areas.

Since 2021, the BEM of the Faculty of Forestry and Environment which is part of the Village Forester Program (Rimbades) has carried out field activities to Purwabakti Village, Pamijahan District, Bogor Regency. This year, BEM, Faculty of Forestry and Environment, IPB University received support from the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology through PPK Ormawa funding. One of the activities carried out by the PPK Ormawa team is documenting best practices including challenges and opportunities during field activities.

“BEM Fahutan IPB, through the Rimbades Program, has been carrying out activities in Purwabakti Village since 2021. “We have gone through many activities including challenges and how we solve them,” said Yogi in the Coaching Clinic activity.

As Chair of the Social Environment and Forestry Department in charge of the Village Forester Program and retainer of the Village Forester since 2021, he expressed that he wanted good stories from activities in Purwabakti Village to be known to many people. By writing the Smart-TOGA book, he also hopes that this book can become a foundation for the successors of Village Foresters.

Initially, the Smart-TOGA Book was designed to only document various types of medicinal plants in Purwabakti Village. Medicinal plants in Purwabakti Village are widely used by paraji (smart people) to treat people from certain diseases. However, Thomas Oni Veriasa as the facilitator of this Coaching Clinic activity believes that there are many similar books about collections of medicinal plants that exist in various regions.

“If we only documented various types of medicinal plants and how people use them, there would be many books like this. It would be more valuable if friends also wrote down the good lessons and experiences from the activities of the Village Foresters and PPK Ormawa which friends have started since 2021,” emphasized Thomas.

He revealed that in community development activities, it is very important to document best practices from these activities. Writing the Smart-TOGA book could be an effort for the PPK Ormawa team to inform the residents of Purwabakti Village and the general public about the good lessons learned from this activity.
