LATIN is exploring cooperation with the Huma Association to accelerate and strengthen Social Forestry in Java. The focus of the issue to be discussed is the policy of establishing Forest Areas with Special Management (KHDPK). Photo: HuMa documentation
Tuesday (11/4) the Indonesian Tropical Nature Institute (LATIN) held a discussion with the Indonesian HuMa Association. The purpose of this activity is to discuss a collaboration plan in the management of Java Forests. HuMa is an institution that focuses on the movement for legal reform related to land and natural resources. In the context of Java Forest, HuMa is part of the Java Forest Restoration Coalition (KPHJ) with a configuration approach to structuring Java Forest.
This collaboration plan will be carried out through collaborative research, discussion forums, and formulating recommendations for the implementation of Government Regulation No. 23 concerning Designation of Forests with Special Management (KHDPK). This policy allows areas previously managed by Perhutani to be managed by the community. It is important to study KHDPK further, so that the process and its implementation can promote people’s welfare.
The discussion activity was also attended by researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) who will carry out research related to the political ecology aspects of KHDPK. This collaboration is so that the community becomes the main actor and the biggest beneficiary of program implementation. KHDPK is a form of Social Forestry (Social Forestry) which is always encouraged by LATIN to achieve the vision of wana kanaya sembada (sustainable forest, prosperous community, and independent village).
